- The Rolling Stones Mailing List Hi y'all... Yes, the Paris GlimmerTeam was at work again yesterday night. We met in Angers, a medium size city in western France, for a concert by Louis Bertignac. For those of you unfamiliar with this name, he is now playing solo since his former band, called Telephone, did split in the middle of the 80's. Telephone was and remains the major French Rock band (if not the only one). They were much inspired by the Stones, and opened for one of their shows in Paris in '82. And the other guitarist and singer in Telephone is Jean-Louis Aubert, who opened again for the Stones in the Stade de France, last july. I'm sure all of you who went to the Stones show in Paris remember this act as being one of the hottests this tour (mainly because he actually played mostly Telephone songs, and only one or two of his IMHO rather poor solo career). The Paris GlimmerTeam had already met at another Bertignac's show in Paris last may, and it was an opportunity then to organize a few events for the now famous Paris Glimmer Week in july. This had been a very hot show too, as was last night's. Anyway, I got there early with my 2 kids (the kids who requested and thanks to this list got the Stones to play for them Love In Vain in Werchter1), and sneaked into the dressing rooms where we met Louis, who gave us a very friendly welcome. I had pictures to give him, taken at his Paris show last may, and intended to chat a little with him for a couple of minutes and get my kids to shake hands with him. But he was so nice and friendly we finally stayed over an hour, and I even gave him a ride to a nearby shop where he had to get some stuff before the show. He arranged with the promoter that I got a backstage and a photo pass. We talked a lot about the Stones, and he told me he had applied for Mick Taylor's job back in 75, that he knew where Jagger was staying in Paris, but never got a chance to get an audition... I also know Telephone used to record at the Pathe studios at the same period the Stones recorded there in the 70's-80's, and they met many times then. Also, we talked a lot about Mick Taylor, who opened for him (yes !) in a French festival last July. He told me his opinion was that Mick Taylor was missing a lot of self-confidence since his Stones period, and that he was anxious before getting on stage to be confronted with people more interested in seeing an ex-stone than just himself. Later, I finally met the others French Glimmers (Fabrice, Patrice and Marie-Jeanne and their kids, plus friends), and the show was so great... Louis rocked the house for over 2 1/2 hours. At one moment, his musicians take a break and he stays alone on stage with an acoustic guitar, and he asked us what we wanted him to play. Fabrice shouted out ''Sister Morphine !'' and he very nicely played it. Then he went on with some of his own songs and a few covers, including a Sympathy For The Devil meddley with Beatles' Hey Jude, terrific acoustic version. We were treated with many other great songs, including (let us not forget this is a Stones Mailing List) Honky Tonk Women. After the show was over, I went backstage again (Patrice and Fabrice were stopped by the security), and we talked again about his show, and about Stones boots, his favourite being Munich 73, better than Brussels IHO. As we were going to Patrice's home to stay for the night, he asked me to acll him back after dinner, that he would be happy to come with us to talk some more and visit Patrice's huge Boots collection ;-) So we went back to the venue at 2:30 am, but he was too tired then to come with us, so he very friendly asked us to stay for a while. We stayed over an hour, discussing many things, including the Stones, internet, and computer programming (he released a double CD live with 100s of MB of programs on it, that he all made by himself). Certainly one of the coolest guys I met, and also this time through the net, and partly thanks to this list. He was really interested in UC, and he might be another subscriber soon ;-) Those

and reports) : Keep On Rockin'... Thierry. Th's
